The “Other” Italy

There is a principle of the laws of physics is illustrated by the obervation that a pendulum only swings as far as it’s pulled. Think about it for a minute and you’ll understand the point I’m about to make related to the world class style associated with our destination today on the Round the World Decorating Tour.

We could spend days, weeks or maybe the rest of my young life (!) exploring and expounding on the elegance and beauty created by the craftsmen, artisans and designers of Italy. Books documenting their creations fill entire sections of librarys and the mere mention of certain names, both modern and ancient, (Valentino, Gucci, Paladio, da Vinci, Caravagio…etc.) floods the mind with images of monumentally sublime beauty. And because the pendulum has been pulled so far in the direction of this soul stretching refinement it is equally true that there exists an equally moving quantity of really awful stuff also produced by this culture of extremes. So before we revel in the good stuff let’s take a peak at the decorating disasters foisted on the world by the sometimes mad but always marvelous inhabitants of Italy.
